Quite simply, London is one of the world’s greatest cities for live music and this summer there is no exception to the talent on offer. There is an array of music events happening in and around London for summer 2014 which feature impressive acts, from new and upcoming bands to headline names, like Kanye West and much more. It seems the city has got it all covered this summer.

Here are our top five must-go-to music events in London for summer 2014.

The Great Escape

When: May 8-10

Where: Brighton

Since established in 2006, The Great Escape has taken a leading role in showcasing new talent. Over 330 bands play in 30 venues over three days with pre-publicized performances and impromptu street gigs springing up all over town. Although, not in London city, it’s only a short journey away and what’s more, you get to experience the beautiful surroundings of the beachside town of Brighton.

Field Day

When: June 6-8

Where: Victoria Park, London

Field Day 2014 will take up a whole weekend in June. It has a garnered a reputation for bringing the world’s most pioneering artists to London over the past few years and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop anytime soon! US alt rock titans Pixies headline on Sunday, with an incredible psychedelic rock support bill: The Horrors, Temples, Pond and Drenge. A host of great Saturday acts includes bleep-pop master Joe Mount and his Metronomy project (returning to Field Day as headliners), plus more great indie bands, electronic forward-thinkers, African and Middle Eastern stars, and leftfield pop singers and MCs than you can imagine.

Hampton Court Palace Festival

When:June 12-25

Where:Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey

The Hampton Court Palace Festival is perhaps one of the more laid-back festivals on this list. It gets underway with high-profile names from rock, pop and classical music taking to the stage in the historic main courtyard of the Tudor palace. Acts include Jools Holland, Marc Almond, Jamie Cullum, Jason Donovan, and the legendary Beach Boys. Away from the main stage, visitors can relax with a picnic in the scenic gardens or head over to a marquee to enjoy a sumptuous buffet.

Greenwich+Docklands International Festival 2014

When:June 20-28

Where: Various venues

The Greenwich and Docklands International Festival brings a vast array of entertainment and shows to the streets of the capital. The annual, nine-day celebration features a mix of outdoor arts, theatre, and dance and music events. Impressively, there are more than 150 performances by 30 national and international companies to see.

Wireless

When: July 4-6

Where: London’s Finsbury Park and Birmingham’s Perry Park

American hip-hop star Kanye West has been announced as one of the headline acts at this year’s Wireless Festival. Other artists confirmed to perform include Pharrell Williams and Drake, Outkast, Bruno Mars, Ellie Goulding, Basement Jaxx and John Newman. This year is the first time that artists will perform at two venues. The three-day event, which takes place on the weekend of July 4-6, will now be hosted both at London’s Finsbury Park and Birmingham’s Perry Park. This year will be the tenth anniversary of this popular festival.
